Thirteen Tech Ideas for a Better India
In this talk, Roshan will share his experiences in Indian democracy through the lens of politics, policy, governance, economy, media, digital media, sustainability, judiciary, elections, government institutions, non-profits, academia, journalism, and civil society. He will identify ten themes or ideas that are interesting to pursue for do-gooders in the science and technology space in India. The overarching theme of the talk will be to identify public problems whose solution can leverage IT and Technology to further democracy and outcomes for the ordinary Indian citizen.

Roshan Shankar is the Advisor to the Government of NCT of Delhi in the public sector and works in sustainability and communication in the private sector. He has assisted in cross-sectoral governance with four Ministers in the Delhi Government from 2015-19 and has authored government reports and academic papers on women’s safety, social infrastructure for healthcare and education, electricity, water, air quality, solid waste management, and sewerage.
He volunteers with the Aam Aadmi Party in multiple states and has helped new candidates run elections for public office through communication, policy, operations and IT lens. He drafted AAP’s 2015 manifesto through Delhi Dialogue, a consultative participatory citizen’s manifesto under the chairmanship of now Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and coordinated research for Vision Swaraj, AAP’s Internal Policy Dialogues. He holds graduate degrees in Engineering and Public Policy from Stanford University.
