Project MakeAccessible

Around the world, millions of people with disabilities struggle to use personal computers. They struggle because the devices we typically use to interact with PCs are not designed to suit their needs, and the devices that are, are often out of reach due to extreme cost. Even when one of these life-changing devices is obtained, they often need to be further customized, and lack of reliability or high-quality software often leaves users in the lurch.

Building upon a new protocol for hardware prototyping called Jacdac, we hope to empower people around the world—from makers, to allies, and to those with accessibility needs—to build their own specialized, low-cost accessibility devices. Jacdac standardizes the interface between to low-cost hardware, making it easier to compose and build custom devices.
