About
Chad Atalla (they/them) is an Applied Scientist on MSR NYC’s SocioTechnical Alignment Center (STAC) team. They received their M.S. in computer science from UCSD and joined Microsoft as an Applied Scientist working on language intelligence features in MSAI. Eventually, they pivoted to work as the first full-time Responsible AI employee in MSAI and worked on novel solutions to map, measure, and manage fairness-related issues in AI systems. There, they built the first version of the measurement framework which would eventually be applied to the Bing Chat release. Then, they joined MSR NYC as an Applied Scientist with the charter of contributing to foundational Responsible AI research while serving it up as practical solutions for teams across the company. Now, Chad’s work focuses on measurement of sociotechnical risks associated with the development and deployment of generative AI systems.
