ACM/IEEE Fellow Dr. Lili Qiu joins Microsoft Research Asia as Assistant Managing Director
Microsoft Research Asia announced that Dr. Lili Qiu, a world-leading expert in the field of Internet and mobile wireless networks, has officially joined Microsoft Research Asia as Assistant Managing Director and will be mainly responsible for overseeing the research, as well as the collaboration with industries, universities, and research institutes, at Microsoft Research Asia (Shanghai). Before joining Microsoft Research Asia, Dr. Qiu was a professor of computer science at the University of Texas at Austin and Chair of ACM SIGMOBILE.
On the appointment of Dr. Qiu, Microsoft Research Asia Managing Director Lidong Zhou expressed, “In addition to her world-class technical excellence and her outstanding community leadership, Dr. Lili Qiu will bring fresh international perspectives to Microsoft Research Asia, generate different kinds of energy as a leader, and foster exciting new ideas, new collaborations, and new innovations with our wonderful colleagues in our diverse and inclusive lab environment. We are particularly looking to Lili for her leadership in shaping the culture of our Shanghai lab for its long-term success, setting exciting research directions that drive groundbreaking innovations and impacts, and cultivating our amazing talents to grow continuously and pursue their highest ambitions.”
Dr. Lili Qiu was born in Shanghai and obtained her MS and PhD degrees in computer science from Cornell University. From 2001-2004, she worked at Microsoft Research Redmond as a researcher in the System & Networking Group. She joined the University of Texas at Austin as an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science in 2005 and later became a tenured professor and doctoral advisor. Dr. Qiu is an ACM Fellow and an IEEE Fellow.

Dr. Lili Qiu is Assistant Managing Director of Microsoft Research Asia and is mainly responsible for overseeing the research, as well as the collaboration with industries, universities, and research institutes, at Microsoft Research Asia (Shanghai).
Dr. Qiu is an expert in Internet and wireless networking, and had worked at Microsoft Research Redmond as a researcher in the System & Networking Group from 2001-2004. In 2005, she joined the University of Texas at Austin as an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, and later, in view of her outstanding achievements in the internet and wireless networks fields, she was promoted to a tenured professor and doctoral advisor.
Dr. Qiu is an IEEE Fellow and an ACM Fellow and also serves as the ACM SIGMOBILE chair. She was named an ACM Distinguished Scientist and was a recipient of the NSF CAREER award, among many other honors.
