What is the Microsoft Customer Agreement?

Improving your purchase experience with the Microsoft Customer Agreement

September 15, 2020

There's been a lot of talk lately about our digital transformation with the new commerce experience. We’ve been working on a number of important licensing changes as we transition our customers from on-premise software to the cloud, so we’re taking a closer look at your overall experience with us.

Your feedback about how purchasing from our traditional licensing programs can cause delays in usage is important to us. As such, we’ve embarked on a journey to rethink and redesign your purchasing experience to better address your needs.

Instead of buying through a variety of licensing programs, you will be able to purchase through a newly created, fully digital agreement, which we simply call the Microsoft Customer Agreement.

Our goal is to provide a consistent and simplified purchase experience, with greater flexibility in how and where you buy. With the Microsoft Customer Agreement, we’ve introduced a streamlined way to buy. You accept one straightforward purchasing agreement that’s always up to date and doesn’t expire, whether you buy directly from Microsoft or a Microsoft partner. This helps shorten the buying process by getting proposals from your Microsoft sales representative or your partner. There’s less administrative overhead with no lengthy paperwork required—simply accept the Microsoft Customer Agreement and you’re ready to go.

We’ve started to roll out the Microsoft Customer Agreement, so let’s review what this means for you:

When would I accept the Microsoft Customer Agreement?

Work with your Microsoft seller or your Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partner to understand your options with the Microsoft Customer Agreement.

Where is it available today?

The Microsoft Customer Agreement is currently available through Microsoft sellers in Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Greece, Puerto Rico, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, and all Western Europe.

The Microsoft Customer Agreement is also available through the CSP program around the world. Find a CSP partner.

Stay tuned as this is the first of many posts in our Microsoft Customer Agreement blog series to help you become more familiar with the new commerce experience we are designing for our customers. In the coming months, we’ll talk more about what the new commerce experience looks like and explain the upcoming changes you can expect.
