Anime is a global phenomenon that inspires many fans to create original characters (OCs) and worlds. Copilot’s image generation capabilities can help you breathe life into your own original characters and see them appear before your eyes with just a single prompt.
How to structure an anime art prompt
What is an anime art prompt? Your prompt is the written or spoken command you give Copilot to make your idea come to life—the blueprint for your anime images.
At the very least, your prompt should mention a character, place, or context. You can try starting with a clear command such as, “generate an image in anime style of…” followed by a description of your character, place, and/or context.
Flesh out your prompts
For the best AI results, specificity is your ally. Here are some tips to enrich your prompts in Copilot:
Specify an art style
Get the results you want by specifying an art style. Anime covers a wide range of styles, each with distinctive visual and thematic elements. Here are a few to get you started with Copilot:
- Shonen: Known for action, friendship, and heroism.
- Shojo: Focusing on romance, relationships, and emotional growth.
- Seinen: Featuring complex, often darker themes.
- Josei: Presenting realistic stories of love and life.
For example, you might try prompts like these:
Make a Seinen-style anime of an Anubis character with glowing red eyes standing in the dark desert wielding an ancient sword.

Make a Josei-style anime of a gothic vampire girl standing on a castle balcony in the moonlight.

These are some of the anime art styles you can include in your prompts to create one-of-a-kind AI anime characters, from Chibi to Kawaii.
Tell a story
Another great technique for fleshing out your prompts with Copilot is to write your prompts as if you are telling a story. In other words, be detailed!
Try first writing out the details of how you want your characters to look. Then convert it to a prompt.
Does your character have green hair? What if they had a dragon partner? You might write a prompt like this: “Create a Shojo-style anime image of a girl and her green dragon sitting at the edge of a cliff staring at the sun together before they part ways.”

Refine your prompts for different results
If you’re unsatisfied with your results, refine and tweak your prompts.
Experiment with different scenes and genre
Sure, you may have listed an anime art style in your prompt, but why not refine it further and throw in a genre? This can be anywhere from magic to slice of life.
For example, a good cyberpunk prompt to ask Copilot would be, “Create an image in a Shonen-anime style of a blue-haired hero walking down the street in a cyberpunk city.”

Add and modify characters
Tweak your prompts even further by modifying characters. Specify an emotion or personality type, or add more items to your prompt. Add a new character to make things even more interesting.
Ask Copilot to “make a Shonen-anime style image of a blue-haired young man and their robot companion walking down a bustling city street set in a cyberpunk world. They are clearly outsiders, and the hero is visibly vigilant about their surroundings.”
